Self-guided
Learning Mindfulness is like learning to ride a bike. You can’t really understand how to do it by reading a book; it’s something you can only truly understand by trying it. And the more you practice it, the more it will become second nature, a new way of being. Why not start now?
The good news is it’s incredibly simple, but like any new skill, it takes practice to retrain our mental habits. Meditation practice is like going to the gym for your mind. Each time you bring your mind back to the present, it’s like doing a push-up for your mind, strengthening its capacity to stay present.
You can access all the recorded mindfulness practices that I use when teaching an MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) Course. Although there is much more guidance and instruction in the actual MBSR class, if you aren’t able to take a class at this time, use these recordings as a way to get started practicing Mindfulness on your own. Build your skills through each of the carefully crafted meditations until you are ready to take off the training wheels and practice without any guidance, similar to the feeling of freedom when riding a bike.
In loving kindness, Julie
